Shop Local in Manatee County

Agriculture has always played a vital role in Manatee County’s economy. With more than 220,000 acres of land dedicated to agriculture production, its economic impact, which is estimated to be about $500 million, is only second to tourism. Sadly, Manatee County continues to lose agricultural land every year due to economic forces, natural disasters and growth. So how do we ensure that agriculture in Manatee County not only survives, but thrives for generations to come? The answer is to SHOP LOCAL!

When you support local farmers, fishermen and ranchers it helps the local economy! Studies have shown that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in the community. That is more than double the amount of money that stays in the local economy compared to purchasing at a chain business. When you shop local, it creates jobs and it is better for the environment as it reduces transportation. Many local businesses are also an active part of the community, they support local charities and put on community events.
